Redemptoristine Nuns

The Redemptoristine Nuns came to South Africa from their monastery in Liguori, USA In 1991 to be a prayer support for the Redemptorists. Their spirituality is similar to the Redemptorists. They were founded in Scala, Italy in 1731 by Sister Maria Celeste Crostarosa with the help of Saint Alphonsus Liguori to be living memorials of God's love and radiate Christ's redeeming presence. Leading a contemplative life style, they are wholly dedicated to an apostolate of prayer which places them in the heart of the Church and enables them to share in the joys and sufferings, the hopes and challenges that touch all peoples. They wear a dark red habit, black veil and medal of the Risen Redeemer. Their monastery is located in Merrivale in Natal near the Redemptorist Student Community and the parish in Howick. Their chapel has become a place of peace and worship and they welcome others to join them or contact them with their special prayer needs.
