Message from Vocation
Director
A vocation is a wonderful gift from God - a calling
that God gives to us in order to share in a unique way
some part of the divine life. God gives us this gift
so that we may bring God's love and life to others.
When we look at the Church, we can become confused
at the many religious groups there are - we find the
Salesians, the Dominicans, the Jesuits, the Franscicans,
to name just a few of the well known ones. All of these
groups came into being under the inspiration of the
Holy Spirit - and all of them have a special role to
build up the Church and society.
We as Redemptorists also have a special role in the
Church. We were founded in Naples in 1732 when the Church
was weak and poor people had no-one to help them. Alphonsus
listened to God's call and with great zeal, started
preaching to them. He was so convinced that it was God's
will, that soon, a group formed round him - and thus
the Redemptorist Community was started.
The gift the God has given to us is to preach the Gospel
of Christ with great passion. We are passionate men,
who love God and God's people, and who want to bring
salvation to all.
So there are a few points to remember if you want to
pursue enquiries about the Redemptorists:
* Is Christ central in your life?
* Are you willing to evangelize the Gospel with passion?
* Are you able to live in a multi-cultural community?
* Are you willing to live and work among the poor in
different racial groups?
The Redemptorists in South Africa need Spirit-filled,
energetic young men to continue the work of St.
Alphonsus. Men who are not afraid to sacrifice their
lives for the sake of the Gospel.
